Linxon is supplying the complete power supply package including third rail for extension of existing Urban Mass Rapid Transit System in the city of Kochi. The customer is the Indian public company Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL).
Kochi Metro has been operational since June 2017 and phase 1 is one of the fastest completed metro project in India. The annual ridership of the metro is more than 1.6 million people. The extension from Petta – Thripunithura Corridor will be connecting Thripunithura, a prominent historical and residential region in the city of Kochi in Kerala, by the urban mass transit.
The Linxon turnkey scope involves design, engineering, project management, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of complete power supply scope for the extension of the existing Kochi Metro Urban Mass Transit System. The project scope includes traction and auxiliary substations along with power cabling and 750 VDC third rail system, basically a conductor rail providing electric traction power to railway trains and is placed outside of running rails. The project also includes integrating the existing SCADA with these new substations in the package.
This project truly defines the Linxon vision of “from grid to vehicle” in the transportation segment. The power from the grid is fed through theses traction substation via a third rail, to the vehicle. This solution is covered in one single package and it offers a unique proposition to rail infrastructure developers across the globe as it reduces their interfaces with various stakeholders and risk associated with multiple contractors for power supply package.
