Civil works commenced at the Bühl substation site in Germany
March 20, 2023
The intensive planning phase for the new Bühl substation was successfully completed on time with the granting of the required permits and approvals.
After an initial study on environmental impacts, protective measures were put in place to reduce the impact of the construction works on reptiles and breeding bird populations. The Linxon project team has officially taken over the construction site from the transmission system operator TransnetBW in summer 2022 and established the site infrastructure since. The removal of all topsoil was completed before the Christmas break.
The construction work for the new substation commenced in the last week of January 2023 with the mobilization of the civil contractor. The civil contractor started with the excavation works for the foundations. Our Linxon project team ensures that the required equipment and components are being ordered and delivered to the construction site on time.
The increase in the transmission capacity of the Baden Rhine Energy Corridor from 220 kV to 380 kV requires, among other works, the replacement of the Bühl substation. The new substation will not only be state-of-the-art and secure the power supply for many years, it will also allow for future expansion of the substation. The main equipment will be hidden in a building, blending in with the environment.
“With the planning and construction of the Bühl substation, we are pleased to be able to support TransnetBW in ensuring a reliable power supply in Germany”, says Thomas Rechsteiner, Project Manager at Linxon.
The expansion of the Baden Rhine Energy corridor is an important part of TransnetBW’s efforts to ensure the security of a stable electricity supply in southwestern Germany as well as reliable connections to the power grids in neighboring countries.
Following the construction and commissioning of the new 380 kV substation, Linxon will dismantle the existing 220 kV air-insulated substation that will become redundant.
